Grow a plant in cotton wool from seed such as sunflower seeds, cress or a bean. What do you have to do to keep your plant alive? How does this occur outside?
Once the leaves have started to grow, remove the plant and make a drawing in pencil. You may want to use a magnifying glass to help you. Label all the parts of the plant. Make a list of ‘things you know’ about the parts of the plant and a list of ‘things you do not know’. Who could help you find the answers?
Once you have carried out the above, go outside and draw your own harakeke bush. Label all the parts of the plant and explain what jobs they carry out.
